New Solo Leveling Movie Unveiled at Anime Expo

For those eagerly anticipating a third season of *Solo Leveling*, there’s a surprise in store: a feature film is on the way first.

During Anime Expo 2026, it was revealed that *Solo Leveling: Beyond the System* is currently in production, serving as a direct sequel to season 2, *Arise from the Shadows*. The film will continue the story right where the anime left off, although no release date or specific plot details have been shared yet, aside from a teaser visual and the film’s English title.

This announcement follows months of speculation that a third season might not arrive until 2027 or even 2028. The film provides fans with a much-anticipated return to Sung Jinwoo while capitalizing on the growing popularity of anime films in theaters before the series returns to streaming.

In 2026, this strategy makes perfect sense! Following the record-breaking success of *Demon Slayer*’s latest theatrical release, anime films are no longer just niche events; they are becoming major attractions. *Solo Leveling* has spent the last two years demonstrating that it boasts one of the largest fan bases in the anime community.

Based on Chugong’s acclaimed Korean web novel and later adapted into a wildly popular webtoon, *Solo Leveling* follows Sung Jinwoo, the weakest Hunter in the world, who gains the extraordinary ability to level up without limits. What starts as a typical underdog tale quickly evolves into one of anime’s most captivating power-progression narratives, blending RPG mechanics with dungeon raids and increasingly formidable foes.

In addition, *Tomb Raider King*, another Korean web novel centered on high-stakes dungeon exploration, is set to receive its own anime adaptation in July.

The anime adaptation of *Solo Leveling* premiered in 2024, with a second season following just a year later. Both seasons were animated by A-1 Pictures, which is also returning for *Beyond the System*. The film is being produced by a collaboration of companies, ensuring that fans will be eagerly awaiting its release, even if some may be disappointed about the absence of a third season announcement.

While Crunchyroll and Aniplex have not confirmed what will follow the film, it’s clear that *Beyond the System* is not a replacement for season 3; it’s poised to be the next major anime theatrical event.
