Cyberpunk 2077 Achieves Remarkable Sales Milestone
It’s clear that Cyberpunk 2077 has made a remarkable comeback since its troubled launch, with recent reports confirming that the RPG has hit an impressive sales milestone.
As of July 3, 2026, the game has sold over 40 million copies. The studio celebrated this achievement on social media, with a post from Michał Nowakowski highlighting that it “shows the incredible, lasting strength of Cyberpunk 2077 and is a testament to what the studio does best – creating high-quality, immersive stories that keep players coming back for years.”
While it hasn’t quite reached the legendary status of titles like Terraria, Grand Theft Auto V, or even The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 stands among the 23 games that have sold over 40 million copies. This is particularly impressive given the game’s rough start back in December 2020.
Upon release, Cyberpunk 2077 was plagued with bugs and fell short of many promised features. Instead of abandoning the project, the studio committed to ongoing updates and improvements over the years, culminating in the well-received Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023. Although Nowakowski mentioned that the studio doesn’t feel it has fully redeemed itself from the initial launch issues, it’s evident that they’ve done enough to draw in a dedicated player base.
The studio is also focused on expanding the Cyberpunk franchise, with a full sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 in development, along with a trading card game and a second season of the Netflix anime Edgerunners on the horizon. Nowakowski’s announcement about reaching this sales milestone also teased Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, emphasizing that Cyberpunk 2077 laid “a great foundation for our upcoming projects in this universe.”
With the first game surpassing 40 million copies sold, it’s safe to say the franchise is here to stay. If you haven’t yet experienced it, Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2.
