Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Faces Steam Restrictions in 132 Countries Amid Ongoing Fan Concerns Over Sony’s PC Support

It looks like Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, the upcoming title from Arc System Works, is facing some significant access issues. Set to launch on August 6, this fighting game won’t be available in 132 countries on Steam. While the Steam store page doesn’t provide an official reason, it seems clear that the lack of access to PlayStation Network in these regions is the culprit.

This week isn’t looking great for the social media team at PlayStation. In a situation reminiscent of the Helldivers 2 debacle, SteamDB indicates that Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, which is exclusive to PlayStation 5 and PC, will be unavailable for purchase in a specific list of 132 countries.

Curiously, this number matches exactly with the countries previously flagged for Helldivers 2. Sony has decided to block sales of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls on PC in these regions, which include Jamaica, Iran, Belarus, Egypt, and Nigeria, all of which lack PlayStation Network services.

If this restriction is permanent, it raises questions about Sony’s reasoning and the potential backlash they might face. The most plausible explanation seems to revolve around crossplay. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is set to support crossplay between PC and PS5, which likely requires players to link their PSN accounts to access the game on PC.

However, if this is indeed the rationale behind the restrictions, it’s not particularly convincing. Players on PC could simply opt out of crossplay if they choose. The timing of this decision is also questionable, especially since there are reports that Sony plans to shift its focus away from publishing single-player games on PC, opting instead to release only live-service titles moving forward.
