Exciting New Trailer Reveals Stunning Visuals for Suikoden Anime Adaptation
A fresh trailer for *Suikoden: The Anime* dropped over the weekend at Anime Expo, showcasing the adaptation of the beloved 1998 RPG, *Suikoden 2*, widely regarded as the standout title in the series. The trailer features impressive animation and reveals the anime’s theme song along with some new cast announcements.
The brief trailer, just over a minute long, highlights key moments between the two protagonists, Riliu and Jowy. Viewers get a glimpse of their bond under a starry sky, followed by action-packed scenes that seamlessly blend 2D and 3D animation. The trailer is set to the tune of amazarashi’s “Kanaashimi Sae Otonobite,” which will serve as the opening theme for the series.
*Suikoden: The Anime* is slated to premiere this October in Japan, though details on an international release remain under wraps. Konami will debut the first three episodes as a compilation film in 10 theaters across Japan starting August 21. The newly announced cast includes Jin Yamanoi as Agares Bligh, Miyuko Sawashiro as Anabelle, and Kodai Sakai as Jess, joining previously revealed cast members like Toshiki Kumagai as Riliu and Shimba Tsuchiya as Jowy. The series is directed by YUZO (known for *Attack on Titan* and *Exception*), with Michihiro Tsuchiya handling series composition, Ryo Yamauchi on character designs, and music by Koji Nakamura.
*Suikoden 2* is often hailed as the pinnacle of Konami’s extensive RPG franchise. The game was recently remastered in 2025 as part of a bundle with the original *Suikoden*. The official description of the anime outlines the story:
Two young boys, the hero Riliu and his best friend Jowy, are part of a youth brigade in their homeland, the Highland Kingdom, a formidable military power in the northeast Dunan region. They share dreams under the same starry skies, sleep in the same tent, and envision a shared future. However, as fate would have it, they become entangled in the chaos of war. The powerless boys reach for immense power as the 108 stars shine in the murky horizon, each stepping forward with their own beliefs in search of answers.
The reference to “108 stars” alludes to the number of recruitable characters in the game, and if the anime aims to incorporate each character, it will be a fascinating challenge to ensure they all receive their moment in the spotlight.
