Apex Legends Unveils Major Event Featuring Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners Collaboration
After teaming up with iconic franchises like Final Fantasy 7 and Gundam, Respawn Entertainment is set to take Apex Legends to an electrifying new locale: Night City. Recently, Respawn and CD Projekt Red unveiled an exciting crossover event, bringing elements from Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk Edgerunners into the Apex Games.
The Apex Legends x Cyberpunk event goes beyond just introducing new character skins; it’s a full-scale transformation of the E-District map, which will receive a vibrant Night City makeover. Additionally, the fast-paced Wildcard mode will incorporate two new Cyberpunk-inspired abilities.
As expected from a hero shooter crossover, a plethora of fun cosmetics will be available. Eight Legends will don Cyberpunk-themed skins, including Axle as Lucy from Edgerunners and Ash as Lizzy Wizzy from 2077. Players can also look forward to an array of weapon skins, highlighted by a Mythic Alternator skin inspired by the Skippy variant of the Arasaka HJKE-11 Yukimura. If you’ve ever wanted a quirky cartoon bullet to accompany your gameplay, this is your chance.
The eight Legends receiving new skins and their Cyberpunk counterparts are as follows:
“We carefully selected pairings that align both aesthetically and in personality between our Legends and the characters from CDPR,” stated the art director of Apex Legends. “The weapon skins were designed with the same thought process, visually matching each Legend’s skin and the persona they embody.”
In addition to the Skippy-inspired Mythic Alternator, Cyberpunk-themed weapon skins will also be available for the Wingman, Charge Rifle, Mastiff, L-STAR, P2020, RE-45, R-301, and Kraber.
“This collaboration allowed us to create something entirely new: a Mythic Weapon based on an existing character,” the art director explained. “Integrating Skippy into the Apex universe involved more than just a striking design; we incorporated his personality with voice lines that sync with his animations, resulting in one of the most engaging companion experiences we’ve crafted for a Mythic weapon.”
Eduardo Agostini, the game’s world director, noted that E-District was “already loosely inspired by Cyberpunk’s Night City,” but now it fully captures its essence. “From the Arasaka Citadel takeover of Energy Bank to the vibrant lights of Neon Square, I can’t wait for players to drop into the map and experience the love and effort the team has poured into this collaboration,” Agostini shared.
Apex Legends’ Wildcard mode, known for its fast-paced action and thrilling comebacks, is also getting a Cyberpunk twist as part of this collaboration. Two new Cyberware mods will be introduced: Sandevistan and Blackwall Breach. Sandevistan enhances speed, allowing players to dash quickly in any direction, while Blackwall Breach lets players phase into the Net to reposition and unleash a disruptive blast that shatters enemy shields upon return.
Jesse Medellin, the lead technical designer on Apex Legends, expressed his excitement, saying, “I’ve always been fascinated by David and Lucy’s story, and this event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase these incredible characters and their journey. The Cyberware we introduced in Apex Legends pays homage to them. Sandevistan embodies the speed David learns to harness as he embraces his life as an edgerunner, while Blackwall Breach highlights the devastating power a skilled netrunner like Lucy can unleash on foes.”
Apex Legends is available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. (Note that the original Switch version will no longer be accessible after August 4.)
Next up for Cyberpunk: a new season of the animated series Edgerunners, which is set to release sooner than expected.
