First Official Trailer for New Avatar Movie Impresses After Major Leak

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender has had quite the rollercoaster ride leading up to its release. Initially intended for a theatrical debut, the animated sequel to the cherished Nickelodeon series was pulled from theaters and shifted to streaming on Paramount+. In April, the entire film leaked online without any watermarks, creating quite a stir. Originally slated for an October release on Paramount+, it seems the company has decided to move the premiere up several months, likely due to the early viewership. Regardless of the drama, the first official trailer showcases some truly breathtaking animation.

In the trailer, we see young adult versions of Aang and his friends encounter Tagah (voiced by Dave Bautista), an ancient Airbender who, against all odds, is still alive, revealing that Aang is not actually “the last Airbender.” This revelation sets off a series of potentially catastrophic events that the team must avert, and the animation in just these two minutes is absolutely stunning.

The film is now set to arrive on Paramount+ on July 25. However, many fans have expressed their frustration in the comments about the change from a theatrical release. While the trailer doesn’t directly address the April leaks, it concludes with a heartfelt message thanking fans for their “dedication” and “passion,” ending with, “This is for you.”

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is just one of several Avatar projects in development, including a new series set after The Legend of Korra and a fighting game titled Avatar Legends, which will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox, and Switch 1 and 2.
