The top Terminator film is returning to theaters.
He said he would be back. *Terminator 2: Judgment Day* is making its return to theaters later this year to mark the film’s 35th anniversary. James Cameron’s iconic action film first hit screens on August 29, 1991.
The film will be brought back to U.S. theaters starting August 28, with global release dates varying from late August to early September, depending on the region. As the sequel to the 1984 original, *Terminator 2* is often hailed as the pinnacle of the franchise, which includes a total of six films. Over the years, it has amassed over $500 million at the global box office through various re-releases.
On the re-release, Cameron remarked:
“T2 was made for theaters, and our lovingly-prepared 3D version, coming back to the big screen, is the absolute best way to see the film. I believe it’s safe to do spoilers after 35 years, so SPOILER ALERT: the good guys win against the AI superintelligence! And maybe that’s a message of hope we all could use this summer.”
Even after three and a half decades, *Terminator 2* remains a remarkable film. The transformation of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s killer robot into the hero is a brilliant twist that still resonates with audiences. The sequel enhances everything from the original *Terminator*. Both Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton deliver strong performances reprising their roles, but the standout is Robert Patrick as the menacing T-1000. The combination of practical effects and early CGI is particularly impressive, especially on the big screen.
The re-release will feature showings in 4K and RealD 3D, based on StudioCanal’s 2017 restoration of the film. Here is the full global release schedule for *Terminator 2*:
