Creators of the Upcoming Spyro Game Have a Soft Spot for Banjo-Kazooie and Would Jump at the Chance to Revive It for Xbox
Toys for Bob, the studio that was once part of Activision, is hard at work on a new Spyro the Dragon game, a project that fans have eagerly anticipated for quite some time. With a solid history of reviving classic 3D platformers and a good rapport with the owners of both Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro, the team has expressed interest in creating a new entry in the beloved series if the opportunity arises.
In a recent chat with an outlet, Toys for Bob’s studio head Paul Yan and associate creative director Lou Studdert were asked about the possibility of working on Rare’s iconic Banjo-Kazooie franchise. Yan responded with a chuckle, indicating that the topic comes up quite often among the team, who are clearly fans of the franchise that originally graced the Nintendo 64.
“It’s a franchise we love,” Studdert shared. “As platformer enthusiasts, Banjo is at the top of our list. We have some massive fans of that series on our team—I’m talking about people who have the Jiggy as their profile picture, that level of dedication. We truly adore the franchise.”
Studdert emphasized that if the chance ever presented itself, it would be an incredible opportunity.
Yan added, “If you look at the types of games we enjoy making, I can definitely see Banjo fitting into that lineup. Those characters are not just nostalgic; they’re timeless and iconic.” He elaborated that Banjo-Kazooie resonates with players on a deep level, highlighting that these are the kinds of games Toys for Bob is passionate about. Yan couldn’t help but rave about how wonderful the Banjo games are.
However, before diving into a potential Banjo project, Toys for Bob is focused on completing another 3D platformer. The team is currently developing Spyro: A Realm Reborn, which was first revealed during a major Summer Game Fest event earlier this year. This project became possible after the studio transitioned away from the Call of Duty franchise back in 2024.
