Another lesser-known Final Fantasy 7 Remake is set to close its doors.

Square Enix has announced that it will be shutting down service for Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis on October 6, 2026. Launched in 2023, this mobile game will have been active for just over three years when it goes offline. Ever Crisis adds to the list of Square Enix mobile titles that have been discontinued in recent years.

In an official statement on the Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis website, Square Enix expressed, “We understand that this news may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologize for the abrupt nature of this announcement.” The message continued, noting that while the team has strived to deliver a great experience since launch, they have “determined that it will be difficult to continue doing so.” Players can use their Red Crystals (the in-game currency) until the service ends, but only residents of Taiwan will be eligible for refunds on any unused Red Crystals purchased with real money.

Ever Crisis serves as a unique remake of Final Fantasy 7, separate from the high-profile remake trilogy currently in development. Through regular updates, Ever Crisis gradually incorporated every mainline and spin-off story from the broader Final Fantasy 7 universe, including Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children, allowing players to experience the entire Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 in one place.

The only title yet to be adapted into Ever Crisis is the lesser-known mobile game Before Crisis, which was itself discontinued in 2018. In conjunction with the service closure announcement, producer Shoichi Ichikawa revealed that Before Crisis will finally be included in Ever Crisis, with the new story being released in three parts from July to August.

Previously, Square Enix shut down the servers for the mobile game Nier Reincarnation in 2024. Both Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars were also taken offline in 2025. However, Brave Exvius is set to make a comeback later this year with Final Fantasy Resonance, a console port scheduled for release on October 22. Additionally, the mobile title Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent has been adapted into the console game Octopath Traveler 0, which is still available. While there has been no word on Nier Reincarnation receiving a similar console release, fans remain hopeful that Ever Crisis might find new life on consoles in the future.
