Celebrate 60 Years of Star Trek with an Impressive New Box Set This Fall

Trekkies might want to brace themselves for another hit to their wallets, as a new box set for *Star Trek: The Original Series* is on the way to celebrate its 60th anniversary, set to launch on September 8.

This release will come in three different versions: a DVD set priced at $101.99, a standard Blu-ray set for $104.99, and an Amazon Exclusive Edition retailing for $139.99. Each version features the complete 79-episode run, remastered in 1080p with improved visuals and the original audio. Plus, they all include over nine hours of special features.

The Amazon collector’s edition boasts some extra goodies, including a 4-inch vinyl of the original theme, limited-edition lobby cards, and stylish new packaging.

However, not all fans are thrilled about this latest offering. The set currently holds a 2.7 rating on Amazon, with some negative feedback pointing out that it offers less than the previous anniversary collection. A decade ago, the 50th-anniversary set included the original series, the first six movies, and *Star Trek: The Animated Series* for $208.99. While that was pricier than the new 60th-anniversary release, many fans wish that earlier collection had been reissued. Additionally, there’s frustration that this is yet another 1080p release instead of a 4K upgrade.

Star Trek enthusiasts have faced a wave of disappointing news lately. The franchise has dwindled from several active series to just two—*Strange New Worlds* and *Starfleet Academy*—both of which are nearing their conclusion. *Star Trek: Lower Decks* wrapped up with its fifth season in 2024, while *Prodigy* and *Discovery* also came to an end that year. The direct-to-streaming film *Star Trek: Section 31* received harsh criticism from both critics and fans, scoring just 24% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 15% from audiences when it premiered on Paramount Plus on January 24, 2025.

Looking ahead, aside from the final two seasons of *Strange New Worlds* (with season 4 debuting on July 23) and *Starfleet Academy’s* last season set for 2027, there are no fully announced upcoming Star Trek shows or films.

After a long period of development challenges, the fourth Star Trek film featuring Chris Pine as Kirk has been canceled in favor of a new, yet-to-be-titled project from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. With Paramount now under new management, the future of the series remains uncertain.
