Glitched Chocobos Continue to Haunt Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fans Two Years On

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been out for two years now, and we’re getting closer to wrapping up the Remake trilogy with Revelation set to release next year. However, it seems that Square Enix hasn’t addressed a quirky bug that’s been around since 2024. While “plaguing” might sound dramatic, it’s actually a delightful surprise for players. A rogue, glitched Chocobo has been popping up and following players in the most unexpected places.

This bug has resurfaced in the spotlight thanks to Twitter user @bwautif, whose posts of the wandering bird in bizarre locations have gone viral. When the issue was first mentioned in a discussion, Ethan Gach speculated whether this was a new glitch or if it had somehow slipped under the radar for two years. Turns out, this Chocobo has been causing a ruckus since the game launched.

“Guys help me, I am desperate,” a user on a gaming forum wrote back in 2024. “A Chocobo follows me everywhere, even in cutscenes, causing characters to collide with it. It completely ruins my experience. I think this bug started after Gabe’s Chocobo ranch side quest. When I’m near the ranch, it doesn’t happen, but as soon as I get close to Junon, this Chocobo spawns and follows me. If I use the Chocobo fast travel service to go to the grasslands, it disappears.

Please stay in touch; I’m desperate. I want this bug to go away because I want to enjoy the game as much as possible, but I can’t like this.

I also reached out to Square Enix Support. I hope they respond to my email.

Please help me.”

Given that players are still running into this bug, it seems Square Enix hasn’t gotten back to them. Let’s hope this Chocobo didn’t crash any of the more intense scenes. But who knows? Maybe this Chocobo could save the team from Rebirth’s ambiguous ending. Let him stick around, Square Enix. You’ve got a third game to focus on, so no need to patch this lovable glitch out of Rebirth.
