Pilot Takes to the Skies to Spell Out ‘I’m Bored’ in England’s Skies
Over the weekend, a pilot in the UK caught the spotlight after using flight tracking software to send a cheeky message across the skies. “I’m bored,” he wrote, apparently while testing a plane following some repairs.
As noted by an outlet and TikTok creator Aaron Rheins, the pilot took off from Liverpool, England, on Saturday morning and flew for about two hours. This flight, like most others, was tracked and recorded on a flight tracking website. Rheins discovered the pilot’s playful message hidden in the flight data while monitoring the new part installed in the Piper Tomahawk he was flying.
“I’ve never seen a pilot say he’s bored by writing it in the sky,” Rheins remarked in a now-viral TikTok video showcasing the airborne message.
According to the flight data, the pilot spent roughly 20 minutes at around 11,000 feet, skillfully maneuvering his plane in tight loops to spell out “I’m Bored.”
The airline that operates the plane, and employs the pilot, has decided not to take any action against him for his lighthearted message. The airline’s operations manager mentioned that the pilot wouldn’t face any consequences for his antics. “I think the pilot was literally a bit bored, as it was just a test flight. Mind you, it was pretty skillful flying,” the manager said. “He’s not in trouble, but we have had a lot of attention from it. The plane is now safely back in the hangar, and the pilot is on his day off.”
Ironically, while the pilot may have been bored during the test flight, he likely had to focus quite a bit to create that message with his flight path.
“He was a bit bored, but he probably had to concentrate a lot in the end to spell out the words, so he was probably anything but,” the manager added.
