New Leaks Reveal Surprising Details About the Professor in Pokémon Winds and Waves

All mainline Pokémon games kick off in a familiar way: a professor in a lab coat hands you one of three starter Pokémon. This makes the professor a key character in any new title, and Pokémon Windsand Waves is expected to follow suit. Rumors surrounding this upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game suggest that Game Freak has crafted one of its most intriguing professor concepts yet.

There’s a buzz of speculation about the professor in Pokémon Windsand Waves. One persistent rumor hints at a time travel element, suggesting that the professor may be a scientist from a different era. While it’s tough to confirm these claims, the series has a history of incorporating time travel, making this theory quite believable. However, the most captivating rumor revolves around the professor’s identity.

Dedicated fans will recall that Game Freak experienced a significant data breach in 2024, which exposed internal plans, game design documents, and a wealth of information related to the 10th generation of Pokémon games. Enthusiasts are still combing through the leaked files for insights.

Among these files was a character model of the presumed professor from Pokémon Windsand Waves, shared by a well-known leaker in December 2025. Although the model was untextured, fans could discern the character’s overall shape.

Initially, the model’s facial hair led fans to draw parallels with evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin. This connection gained traction in February 2026 when a trailer showcased various island explorations. Prior leaks hinted that the new region would be inspired by Southeast Asia and feature procedurally generated islands. Given Darwin’s famous theories developed after his visit to the Galápagos Islands, this connection seems fitting.

Another ongoing leak suggests that Pokémon Windsand Waves will introduce a new category called Seed Pokémon. These creatures are said to evolve in unconventional ways, adapting based on how they are raised rather than following a fixed evolution line. If Seed Pokémon become a reality, a Darwin-inspired professor would be a perfect fit for the game.

Recently, a list of Pokémon rumored to receive new evolutionary forms has been circulating online. While the authenticity of these leaks is uncertain, a few Pokémon stand out in relation to Darwin. Notably, Psyduck is rumored to receive an Ice/Psychic regional variant.

Darwin’s theory of evolution is often illustrated through his observations of finches. However, he was also fascinated by the kangaroo and platypus, which led him to ponder how animals adapt to their environments. Interestingly, leaks suggest that Windsand Waves will feature a new platypus (Psyduck) and a kickboxing kangaroo.

Additionally, the presence of blue-footed boobies, known for their unique features and found in the Galápagos, could have inspired the idea of an Ice-type Psyduck. Darwin also noted the crimson land iguanas during his travels, which supports rumors of a new evolution for Salandit.

Traditionally, Pokémon professors are named after trees, so it’s unlikely the new educator will have a name that directly references Darwin. Moreover, the information from the Teraleak is dated and may not reflect the final concept. Game Freak could very well pivot to a different professor idea before the game’s release. For now, it seems that Pokémon Windsand Waves draws some inspiration from Charles Darwin.

Pokémon Windsand and Pokémon Waves are set to launch in 2027 for the Switch 2.

The RPG will maintain its turn-based battle system, but reports suggest that the mechanics will evolve in new ways.
