First Look at The Batman Part 2 Reveals Release Pushed to 2028

Fans excited for Batman’s next cinematic adventure will need to hold on a bit longer. Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight has been pushed back once more, with Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part 2 now set for a 2028 release.

The announcement came amid a series of shifts in the release calendar. J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond has been moved up to October 1, 2027, causing The Batman Part 2 to shift from its previous date to February 18, 2028.

Reeves shared the update on social media, featuring a brief camera test video of Pattinson’s Batman dramatically turning to face the camera, surrounded by falling snow. This hints that The Batman Part 2 may unfold during winter, following Reeves’ earlier mention of “snow tires.” Could we see Mr. Freeze making an appearance with some frosty schemes? It’s uncertain, as a more fantastical villain like Freeze might not align with the grounded tone of Reeves’ films, which he describes as a “Crime Saga.”

This isn’t the first delay for The Batman Part 2; it was initially slated for an October 2025 release, then pushed to October 2026, and again to October 2027. The first film premiered on March 4, 2022, meaning there will be a six-year gap between Reeves’ Batman films, assuming no further changes to Part 2’s release date.

The sequel will see the return of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan is also expected to reprise his role as the Joker. New faces joining Reeves’ standalone Batman universe include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Details about the newcomers’ roles remain somewhat unclear. While some sources suggest Stan will portray Harvey Dent/Two-Face, there are rumors he might actually be playing the serial killer Victor Zsasz, with Henry taking on the role of Dent. Johansson is reportedly set to play Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife, while Charles Dance may portray Charles Dent, Harvey’s father.

Sebastian Stan’s character in Matt Reeves’ sequel is rumored to be a classic Batman villain.
