Mario Tennis Fever Introduces Galaxy-Themed Update with Black Holes and Prankster Comets

Nintendo has rolled out a 1.1.0 update for Mario Tennis Fever, introducing a host of Super Mario Galaxy-themed features to the Switch 2 sports game. This update also allows players without the game to join matches via GameChat.

Among the new additions is the Black Hole Racket, a Fever Racket that creates a black hole at the point of impact when you hit a Fever Shot. Players nearby (excluding the ball) will be drawn toward the black hole and can take damage if they get too close. If their HP hits zero, they get sucked in and knocked out.

A new court, the Galaxy Court, has also been added, set on one of the vibrant planetoids from Super Mario Galaxy. This court is characterized by low ball speed and high bounce. It features a themed Special Match where the court mimics the aggressive curves of a planet’s surface, although it may not be as “spherical” as the patch notes suggest. During these matches, Prankster Comets will appear, altering gameplay conditions by speeding up the action or introducing one-hit KOs.

The new Play via GameChat mode enables you to play with friends who don’t own the game, supporting both swing and button controls, along with the Mix It Up mode.

Additionally, the update brings a comprehensive set of balance adjustments for characters and Fever Rackets, making Star Shots easier to pull off.

Mario Tennis Fever launched back in February, and this update is perfectly timed with the streaming release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Peacock on July 30.
