GTA 6 Insider Returns to Trolling After Hospital Release and Prison Time

After the massive leak of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2023, the alleged hacker, Arion Kurtaj, was placed in indefinite custody at a secure hospital in the UK. Fast forward over two years, and Kurtaj has been released and is now back in prison, awaiting trial.

At just 18 years old during the leak, Kurtaj gained infamy by releasing 90 videos showcasing an early development version of Grand Theft Auto 6. This footage, totaling around 50 minutes of gameplay, was never intended for public viewing. The clips, which have since been removed, featured various elements like shooting, driving, police chases, and even a mission set in a strip club. Many aspects of the leak were unfinished and could only be accessed through a debug menu.

Before his arrest in 2023, Kurtaj was already out on bail from a previous hack involving chip manufacturer Nvidia. Authorities reported that he accessed Rockstar’s systems from a hotel room using just an Amazon Fire Stick. Once inside, he allegedly identified himself as an “attacker” in Rockstar’s internal Slack and threatened to release the game’s source code unless he was contacted. Kurtaj, a member of the hacking group Lapsus$, was not alone in his activities; at least one other underage hacker was also apprehended and sent to a youth rehabilitation center.

The leak was significant enough that it likely influenced Rockstar’s decision to officially announce the game in late 2023, despite it not being publicly confirmed at that time. Rockstar also indicated that the hack cost the company around $5 million.

After facing 12 charges, Kurtaj was deemed unfit to stand trial by his doctors. He was diagnosed with “acute autism” and reportedly expressed a desire to return to hacking. Consequently, he was held in the hospital until he was considered “no longer a danger.”

Recently, it appears Kurtaj met the criteria for release from the hospital, as reported by a journalist. This news comes months after social media posts allegedly from Kurtaj began circulating online. However, the exact timeline of his return to prison remains unclear.

In these posts, Kurtaj described his time in confinement as “amazing” and dismissed the charges against him as “bullshit.” He shared that he had access to the community, could go fishing, cook his own meals, and shop, with specific mentions of three hours of shopping and eight hours of fishing each week.

Kurtaj also claimed that his associates have access to GTA 6’s source code but are waiting for the game’s release before disclosing any sensitive information. While these claims are hard to verify, it’s evident that Kurtaj continues to stir the pot as he awaits trial.

In a separate note, a modder for Forza Horizon 6 known as DVS Squad has managed to bypass a ban that was intended to last a lifetime.
