Dive into the chaos of MindsEye—play for free this weekend!

Developers sometimes roll out free weekends for their games on Steam, often coinciding with sales to entice players to enjoy a taste of the action and consider purchasing at a discount.

This weekend, several titles are available for free, with MindsEye taking the spotlight. You might remember MindsEye as the chaotic release from last year that stirred quite a buzz. Alongside it, a few other better-received games are also up for grabs.

Once upon a time, MindsEye was an ambitious third-person shooter from Build a Rocket Boy, but its launch was anything but smooth. The game faced a rocky debut that resulted in layoffs and earned it a reputation as one of the most disappointing titles of 2025. A significant update rolled out in early 2026, just before another wave of layoffs, amid bizarre allegations of “espionage and corporate sabotage” from the studio’s co-CEO. This so-called “sabotage” led to the release of a poorly received DLC. The studio has since faced lawsuits from staff over privacy issues and protests outside its doors during a paid playtest event for fans.

In short, it’s a train wreck that’s hard to ignore.

If you’re curious about MindsEye, it’s currently free to play on Steam. You can dive into its campaign mode, which revolves around “confronting a conspiracy involving rogue AI, corrupt corporations, and unchecked military power.” Expect to navigate the city of Redrock, battling robots and other foes. If you complete the campaign during the free weekend, you can also explore the game’s creation tool, Arcadia, to craft your own gameplay experiences. Recent reviews show a Mostly Positive rating, suggesting that players are finding some enjoyment in it… somehow.

On a lighter note, Super Battle Golf offers a chaotic twist on the classic sport, allowing up to eight players to tee off simultaneously in a frantic race to the hole. Between your own shots, you can throw a wrench in your opponents’ plans by swinging at their feet, firing a flintlock pistol, or tossing explosives their way—just your typical golf antics.

With 27 courses set in diverse locations and plenty of customization options for your quirky character, Super Battle Golf has garnered over 6,500 Very Positive reviews on Steam. You can try it out for free, and if you enjoy the experience, it’s currently available at a 30% discount for a limited time.

Empyrion – Galactic Survival is reminiscent of No Man’s Sky, offering a space-themed survival sandbox experience focused on exploration, settlement-building, crafting, and surviving against hostile threats. With thousands of mods and a Creative Mode, the game provides endless opportunities to tailor your Empyrion adventure.

Players have embraced Empyrion, racking up nearly 18,000 Mostly Positive reviews. If you find yourself hooked during the free weekend, you can snag it for 60% off at just $7.99 to continue your cosmic journey.
