The long-awaited Game of Thrones PC game is set to launch in 2027.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has resurfaced more than a year after its initial announcement, but with the update that its release has been pushed to 2027.

This real-time strategy game, inspired by the HBO series, is being developed by PlaySide, known for titles like Mouse: P.I. For Hire. Originally slated for a 2026 launch, it has been relatively quiet since its reveal during the packed Summer Game Fest 2025 kickoff showcase. However, it gained attention again last week when the delay to “early 2027” was confirmed.

“War for Westeros will now launch in early 2027,” PlaySide shared in a Steam blog post. “We are committed to delivering a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS enthusiasts and Game of Thrones fans. This decision allows us the time needed to continue working towards that goal and ensure the game achieves the high quality we aspire to.”

Along with the delay announcement, PlaySide’s post included short gameplay clips that highlight its factions, hero abilities, heavy cavalry units, and expansive maps. If you’re a fan of series like Total War, War for Westeros promises a similar RTS experience infused with Game of Thrones elements. If PlaySide can deliver on its vision, War for Westeros could very well become the standout game in this franchise.

Despite the immense popularity of Game of Thrones over the past decade, there has been a lack of substantial video game adaptations from Warner Bros. While Telltale’s Game of Thrones and Reigns: Game of Thrones were decent entries, the series has largely been confined to mobile games that don’t appeal to everyone.

Although Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is reportedly focusing on Game of Thrones as a key franchise moving forward, War for Westeros is set to launch well ahead of any future projects stemming from that initiative. While delays can be frustrating, in this case, it serves as a reminder that the game is still in development and is on track for a full release on Windows PC in 2027.
