Leaked Details of Abandoned Kingdom Hearts Game Ignite Fan Excitement

Kingdom Hearts never ceases to amaze with its outlandish scenarios, like a child in clown shoes taking on the legendary Final Fantasy 7 antagonist Sephiroth in Hercules’ colosseum. Yet, even by the series’ own quirky standards, the rumored opening cinematic from the scrapped mobile title Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link is something else entirely.

In this trailer, we see scuba divers and/or astronauts equipped with jetpacks and Keyblades engaging in a fierce battle against a Darkside. They make the ultimate sacrifice, allowing one survivor to vanquish the Heartless. This victory clears away a miasma reminiscent of the ocean, revealing the divers in a modern city that appears to be Quadratum, the backdrop for Kingdom Hearts 4. The scene shifts to a letter being passed among researchers in lab coats, eventually reaching a man in a tricorne hat. What could it signify? Even Tetsuya Nomura, the series creator, might be scratching his head.

That said, the authenticity of the leaked footage remains unverified. Initially shared on a forum, the videos and screenshots have since circulated on social media. While some fans worry the footage could be AI-generated, many believe it contains too many intricate lore elements for that to be true. Regardless, the community is buzzing with theories about its implications and how it connects to the more realistic setting of Quadratum in Kingdom Hearts 4.

Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was a mobile game announced in 2022, which faced multiple beta tests and delays before its cancellation last year. The 2024 trailer labeled it as a “GPS Action RPG,” set in Scala ad Caelum, the hub for the Kingdom Hearts universe.

The characters in tricorne hats from the teaser trailer resemble those who receive the letter in the leaked footage, and both the official teaser and the leak conclude with the same figure in a black fedora gazing at a building under a night sky. If the leak is a hoax, the creator certainly captured the essence of Tetsuya Nomura’s character designs.

This leak arrives at a time when Kingdom Hearts fans are eagerly awaiting updates on Kingdom Hearts 4. Although the game received a new trailer last month and was confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2, it still lacks a release date, despite being announced in 2022. For now, fans will have to make do with whatever insights they can gather from this potentially real mobile tie-in.
