“Afterlife with Archie Series Set to Premiere”

Archie and the rest of the Riverdale crew are set to make their debut on Disney Plus in a fresh and thrilling way. The streaming platform has confirmed that the upcoming series, *Afterlife with Archie*, is officially slated for a Halloween 2027 release.

Executive producers for the show include Warner Bros. Television, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Greg Berlanti, the same talented team that previously adapted the Archie comics into the hit series *Riverdale* and *Chilling Adventures of Sabrina*. This new series will draw from the 2013 comic of the same name, crafted by Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla. *Afterlife with Archie* follows the beloved Riverdale characters as they navigate a zombie apocalypse unleashed by a botched spell from Sabrina.

While the comic embraced horror elements, it also maintained the franchise’s signature themes of teenage drama and romance. Aguirre-Sacasa expressed his excitement, stating, “This was the comic book that started it all. Getting to turn *Afterlife* into a TV series… is truly a full-circle moment — and the ultimate dream project for me. Time to say a prayer for Archie, Betty, Veronica, and the whole gang, ‘cause THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING!!!!”

The live-action series *Riverdale* enjoyed significant success, running for seven seasons from 2017 to 2023. Initially, it presented a grounded, albeit melodramatic, take on the classic characters, but as the seasons progressed, the storylines took increasingly bizarre turns. Season 6 introduced witchcraft, culminating in a crossover with Netflix’s *Chilling Adventures of Sabrina*, which is also based on Aguirre-Sacasa’s horror-themed comic.

The original *Afterlife with Archie* comic series consisted of just 10 issues. However, when the series was announced last year, Aguirre-Sacasa mentioned he had returned to work on the comic as well. He revealed that issues eleven and twelve had been written, but no new issues have been released yet. While casting details for the *Afterlife with Archie* series remain under wraps, fans of *Riverdale* are undoubtedly hoping to see familiar faces return.

With the conclusion of *Riverdale*’s seventh season now available on Netflix, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the memorable moments that made the series a standout.
