Marvel Chief Expresses Disappointment Over Blade Movie’s Lack of Success

It’s been seven years since the announcement of a Blade movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans are still waiting. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, seems to be feeling the weight of this delay more than anyone, expressing his disappointment over the situation.

In a recent chat on a podcast, Feige opened up about what he considers one of Marvel’s biggest missteps, admitting he feels “like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala [Ali].” The Blade project was first revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, where Feige showcased Marvel’s upcoming lineup, including titles like Black Widow, Loki, Eternals, and Thor: Love and Thunder. The surprise announcement came when Ali made a special appearance to unveil Blade.

Since that initial excitement, Blade has made a brief appearance in an Eternals post-credits scene, but the film’s production has faced numerous challenges, cycling through various writers and directors. Eventually, Marvel Studios removed the film from its release schedule, leaving fans in the dark for years.

While Blade is set to return to the MCU in 2024 alongside Deadpool and Wolverine, Feige has acknowledged that a standalone Blade film featuring Ali seems increasingly unlikely. There are whispers of a Midnight Suns movie that could include Blade, but it appears that the original plans for Ali and Feige have been sidelined.

On a brighter note for Ali’s fans, the director initially attached to Blade, Bassam Tariq, has collaborated with Ali on a new action thriller titled Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, set to release later this year. In this film, Ali portrays a devout hitman on a mission to protect his children, and it looks promising.

Fans are hopeful that Feige might provide more updates on Blade and related projects during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel Studios is scheduled to present on Saturday, July 25, at 5:30 p.m. PDT. Feige will be joined by special guests from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe to discuss what’s next for Marvel Studios.

While the future of the Blade movie remains uncertain, at least Tariq and Ali are reuniting for another exciting project.
