Interview with the Vampire is getting its own TTRPG, distinct from Vampire: The Masquerade.

The gothic horror tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade draws heavily from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, particularly in its portrayal of vampiric society, the powers inherited from makers, and the ancient vampires that could spell doom if awakened. A new version is set to be unveiled at Gen Con in July, but the current publisher is gearing up to introduce some competition with a BackerKit campaign this fall to fund a TTRPG inspired by Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe.

This new game will be based on AMC’s adaptations of Rice’s novels. Similar to how Vampire: The Masquerade established a core system for vampires that was later adapted for other supernatural beings like werewolves and wraiths, Immortal Universe will kick off with an Interview with the Vampire starter set and a New Orleans rulebook, aiming to create a cohesive game that will also include witches and psychics.

While Vampire: The Masquerade often revolves around political machinations and territorial disputes, Immortal Universe will stay true to its source material by emphasizing relationship-driven narratives that span centuries. The emphasis on unreliable memory gives it a vibe reminiscent of the ENNIE-winning solo TTRPG Thousand Year Old Vampire.

Vampire: The Masquerade first hit the scene in 1991 and has seen a resurgence thanks to a Dimension 20 actual play series and an unexpected crossover with Dungeons & Dragons. The publisher is banking on the interest in playing these brooding nocturnal beings to support this new venture. With AMC’s The Vampire Lestat airing its season finale on July 19 and Mayfair Witches not returning until 2027, this game will provide fans of the TV series with a fresh way to dive into Rice’s captivating universe.
