Critical Role Unveils Exciting New Adventure
The creators of Critical Role have consistently showcased their talent for crafting immersive worlds and thrilling adventures for their cast, delighting fans worldwide. In addition to three actual-play Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, Matthew Mercer and his co-founders have contributed to a variety of miniseries, animated adaptations, and spin-off adventures for Dungeons & Dragons, Daggerheart, and Candela Obscura.
While Critical Role has already released several tie-in books and adventures, a new one is on the horizon. The upcoming Daggerheart adventure, titled Road to Nowhere, is penned and designed by Jack Panic of DNGN CLUB. Panic, an indie TTRPG designer and graphic artist, is recognized for creating RPG supplements and indie horror content, making their involvement in Road to Nowhere particularly fitting, as it connects directly to Critical Role’s ongoing gothic-horror miniseries, Age of Umbra: Sallowlands.
Set in the Halcyon Domain, Sallowlands is a harsh landscape filled with formidable foes and dark, unsettling environments. Once a place of hope, it transformed after the gods abandoned it, allowing the corrupting force known as Umbra to spread its influence.
Road to Nowhere unfolds within the Sallowlands, and the stunning key art hints at a focus on its desert-like terrain. The adventuring party briefly traversed this desert in the second episode of the six-part series while making their way to the Tower of Oxudos. Although an official name for the location wasn’t disclosed, it’s reasonable to assume that Road to Nowhere is connected to that area.
Details about the adventure remain under wraps, but hints suggest a blend of “Mad Max meets The Phantom Menace.” An excerpt shared describes Nowhere, a pivotal city in this adventure.
Nowhere is a convoy-city racing at breakneck speeds for weeks on end, a terrifying amalgamation of mechanical vehicles known as Deadrigs, linked together into three massive structures that speed across both the living highway and the arid sands of the Sallowlands.
The zine for this adventure will be available at Gen Con, running from July 30 to August 2. Attendees looking for a physical copy can find it at Darrington Press’ booth for $5, while a free PDF will be accessible on Darrington Press’ official website starting August 12.
