Count Binface, the British comedic candidate, urges Sega to develop Shenmue 4.

Shenmue fans have found an unexpected champion in Count Binface, a humorous candidate vying for the MP position in Clacton, England. He’s rallying for Sega to finally unveil Shenmue 4, a title that has been absent since the much-anticipated Shenmue 3 launched in 2019, following a successful Kickstarter campaign and support from a publisher.

In a video shared on a gaming channel, Binface addressed Sega directly, saying, “I need to say a galactic ‘hello’ to Sega on behalf of the Shenmue fans. I’ve got a little bone to pick with you because the fans would like to campaign for an update from you about Shenmue 4. They can’t leave you guys on another cliffhanger for years.” Many fans criticized Shenmue 3 for not progressing the story towards a conclusion, which felt particularly frustrating given the lengthy development time.

Binface humorously suggested, “I wonder whether Sega needs to be nationalized along with Adele? Should we harness the power of Shenmue to ensure there are no delays with updates ever again?” He also expressed a desire to revive Sega World in London’s Trocadero and bring back a classic Sonic the Hedgehog.

However, before Clacton residents rush to support this Shenmue initiative, it’s worth noting that Binface’s comments stem from a Cameo video commissioned by a fan. This context was acknowledged in the comments section of the gaming channel, indicating that the Shenmue community has certainly made its presence felt.

For those unfamiliar with Count Binface, he’s a novelty candidate running against the controversial Nigel Farage for a parliamentary seat. Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, is currently under investigation for alleged campaign finance violations after receiving a hefty donation from a cryptocurrency billionaire. His announcement to resign has sparked a by-election, which he is contesting, seen by some as a distraction from his legal troubles while trying to maintain his support base.

Farage, who co-founded the Brexit Party (now Reform UK), is known for his hardline anti-immigration views, conservative economic policies, and opposition to environmental regulations. He has faced accusations of racist and antisemitic behavior from former classmates. Despite the controversies, he remains a strong contender for the next Prime Minister of the U.K., unless a talking bin with Shenmue fans behind it can turn the tide.

In a notable achievement, Yu Suzuki’s slow-burn gaming saga outperformed iconic titles like Doom, Super Mario Bros., and Minecraft in a BAFTA poll, with GTA 3 landing in 17th place.
