Comparing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8: A Side-by-Side Look

Samsung recently unveiled its latest lineup of folding Galaxy Z phones and updated smartwatches during the July 2026 Unpacked event, with a launch date set for August 7th. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, Fold 8, and Fold 8 Ultra appear to be aimed more at newcomers rather than those who upgraded last year, as the changes are mostly design tweaks and new AI features, with the Z Fold 8 being the standout.

The Z Fold 8 is likely to grab the most attention in the US this year, unless a rumored foldable from Apple makes its debut soon. Despite its name suggesting it’s a direct successor to the Z Fold 7, it’s actually a new, more compact model starting at $1,899.99. It features a 7.6-inch main display and a 5.5-inch exterior screen, which are smaller compared to the $2,099.99 Z Fold 8 Ultra. While it’s packed with features, it does have some differences, such as a 50-megapixel main camera instead of the Ultra’s 200-megapixel lens, and a slightly smaller 4,800mAh battery. There are three configurations available: the 256GB and 512GB models come with 12GB of RAM, while the 1TB version is equipped with 16GB.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra serves as a direct successor to the Z Fold 7, albeit with a new name. It boasts an 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen, both maintaining the same size and resolution as its predecessor, along with the impressive 200-megapixel camera featuring 3x telephoto optical zoom. It shares the same storage and memory options as the smaller Fold 8.

Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is the entry-level option, starting at $1,199.99. Among the three foldables, the Flip 8 has the least significant hardware updates. Its battery capacity and camera specifications remain unchanged. However, it now features the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor instead of the Exynos 2500 found in the Flip 7. We’ll need to wait for reviews to determine if this upgrade leads to noticeable performance improvements, as last year’s model didn’t show any major issues with the Samsung chip.
