AMD invests up to $5 billion in Anthropic.

AMD is set to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic, aiming to enhance the AI company’s computing capabilities, as announced recently. This partnership will see Anthropic utilize up to 2 gigawatts of AMD’s Instinct MI450 AI GPUs through the new Helios rack-scale system.

The initial gigawatt is expected to be deployed in the first half of 2027, building on Anthropic’s recent data center agreements with SpaceX and TeraWulf. Additionally, Anthropic has secured AI infrastructure partnerships with Google, Broadcom, and Amazon, with speculation about a potential deal with Meta.

Furthermore, AMD and Anthropic will engage in a “multi-year engineering collaboration,” where AMD will integrate Anthropic’s Claude into its software development, engineering, and product development processes. Tom Brown, cofounder and chief compute officer of Anthropic, stated that this partnership will ensure they have the necessary capacity and optimize it for training and serving Claude.
