Xbox Backward Compatibility Launches on PC with Conker: Live and Reloaded

Xbox has just revealed that several classic original Xbox titles, including Conker: Live and Reloaded, will soon be available for PC through its digital store. These games will come with updated visual settings and features, and there are plans to introduce achievements for these nostalgic titles in the future.

On July 22, Xbox announced that four original Xbox games will be available for purchase and play on the Xbox PC app. The lineup includes BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy, which is famously known as Bill Gates’ favorite game. This selection features a mix of Xbox exclusives and launch titles from the 2001 console era. To dive into these games on PC, simply launch the Xbox app, buy your chosen title, and start playing. If you already own the game on console, there’s no need to repurchase it.

However, it’s worth noting that according to Xbox’s minimum specifications, your PC will need to be running Windows 11. Currently, those of us still on Windows 10 won’t be able to access these games on the Xbox app.

“Your library is more than just a collection of games,” stated Jason Ronald, VP of next generation at Xbox. “It is your personal history of epic stories and treasured memories from the past. As players, we don’t want to leave our gaming legacy behind as technology evolves. We expect our library of games to progress with us and to be able to play them in entirely new ways.”

The PC versions will boast new visual enhancements, including 4x resolution upscaling, VSync support, fullscreen and windowed modes, anisotropic filtering, enhanced anti-aliasing, and more.

In the near future, Xbox plans to start adding achievements to select original Xbox games on both PC and console, with these first four titles receiving achievements in the coming months.

“This marks the beginning of a broader effort to preserve Xbox games from the past and bring them to PC over time,” Ronald added. It’s exciting to think about the potential for more original Xbox and Xbox 360 games to gain backward compatibility across both console and PC. It’s impressive that Xbox is leading the charge in making classic games accessible and playable, and it would be great to see Sony and Nintendo take note and follow suit.
