Halo: Campaign Evolved Hints at a Possible Halo 2 Remake
Halo: Campaign Evolved, now available for those who opted for the “early” access, drops two intriguing hints at the end that suggest Halo Studios is gearing up for a remake of Halo 2. One hint is quite subtle, while the other features a character breaking the fourth wall and directly mentioning a sequel.
As with previous Halo titles, finishing Campaign Evolved on the toughest difficulty, Legendary, rewards players with a unique ending cutscene. This time, after conquering the Legendary mode, players are treated to a scene where Sgt. Johnson relaxes on a beach, watching the original game’s Legendary ending. As the ring starts to explode in the background, Johnson stands up, prepares to board a Pelican, and turns to the camera to say, “See you in the sequel.”
The more understated tease connects directly to Halo 2. Once the credits roll, regardless of the difficulty level, players will see a final post-credits scene featuring 343 Guilty Spark navigating through space toward a massive gas giant, with a facility dangling from a cable in the distance. For those familiar with Halo 2, this scene is a clear nod to the events leading to the Heretic encounter in the first Arbiter level.
These hints strongly suggest that Halo Studios is indeed working on a Halo 2 remake. Even without these clues, it felt like the team had plans for a remake, given that Campaign Evolved features numerous weapons from Halo 2, such as the SMG, and introduces the ability for the Master Chief to board and commandeer vehicles—a mechanic first seen in Halo 2. Additionally, players can battle Brutes in the bonus missions, the iconic enemies that make their debut in, you guessed it, Halo 2. The presence of so much Halo 2 content in this remake hints that the team is laying the groundwork for future titles.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is currently available on PS5, Xbox, and PC for those who purchased the special edition, with a wider release set for July 28.
