A new God of War title featuring Kratos is on the way.

Kratos is making a comeback! At San Diego Comic-Con, the director of the God of War series, Cory Barlog, announced that PlayStation’s Santa Monica Studio is hard at work on another installment in the action-adventure franchise featuring our favorite Spartan warrior. According to reports, this new adventure will follow the events of God of War: Laufey, which is set to launch in 2027.

Barlog, who leads the creative team at Santa Monica Studio, didn’t go into detail about what lies ahead for Kratos, but it seems that the story will be closely linked to God of War: Laufey. The standalone journey of Faye hints at exciting developments on the horizon. After battling through the Greek pantheon and taking down various Norse deities, Kratos might be venturing into entirely new mythologies, possibly exploring Egyptian and Tibetan gods, based on the clues from Laufey.

The last main entry in the series was 2022’s God of War Ragnarök. Earlier this year, Santa Monica Studio and Mega Cat Studios released a prequel titled God of War: Sons of Sparta, featuring a younger Kratos as the protagonist. Additionally, a remake of the original God of War trilogy is in the works, though details on that project remain scarce.

God of War: Laufey follows Laufey (also known as Faye) on her quest through the afterlife of the gods, called the Everywhen. In this realm, she uncovers that the protective measures she set for Kratos and Atreus are now in jeopardy, forcing her to confront the gods to safeguard her loved ones. Mark your calendars: God of War: Laufey is set to release on PS5 on February 16, 2027.
