Xbox to Showcase Major Titles at Gamescom 2027

Xbox has just revealed its lineup of 25 games for next month’s Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany, featuring several highly anticipated titles. One of the highlights is Playground Games showcasing the first live gameplay of Fable. While attendees won’t be able to play it directly, the presentation will highlight its combat mechanics. This long-awaited reboot was first announced back in 2020 and is currently slated for release on February 23, 2027.

Another exciting title making waves is Alien Isolation 2, which was officially announced in June. Developed by Creative Assembly, the same studio behind the original 2014 horror hit, this sequel has been in early development since at least October 2024. It’s a bit surprising that Alien Isolation 2 will be playable at conventions so soon after its announcement, but it’s likely that this demo will mirror what was shown to the press at Summer Game Fest, featuring atmospheric outdoor settings and a tense encounter with a Xenomorph.

RGG Studios’ Stranger Than Heaven will also be present with a playable demo. The demo promises to let players “face down fate in the 50-year action-adventure saga,” showcasing an innovative combat system that allows players to control both sides of protagonist Makoto Daito across three of the five immersive Japanese cities and eras featured in the full game. While the game’s story trailer made a strong impression, the decision to digitally resurrect Tupac for the cast drew criticism for being tone-deaf.

In addition to these titles, Microsoft’s booth will host several unreleased games, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Metro 2039, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and Valor Mortis. Overall, the company will have 140 gaming stations available.

Gamescom is set to take place from August 26 to August 30, kicking off with Gamescom Opening Night Live, a livestream hosted by Geoff Keighley that is expected to feature new announcements. It’s no surprise that Microsoft is going all out for this event; Gamescom is the largest gaming convention in the world by attendance, drawing over 300,000 visitors and 1,500 exhibitors last year. With the company facing layoffs of over 3,000 employees this fiscal year, it’s in dire need of positive publicity.

Sega and Creative Assembly are also teasing a new, unfamiliar environment.
