RAM Maker Faces Stock Market Backlash After Reporting $55 Billion Revenue

As the costs of RAM and nearly every component essential for building gaming consoles and PCs continue to climb, there’s a slight, almost imperceptible ray of hope emerging from the chaos of AI datacenter-driven RAM shortages. SK Hynix, one of the top three chip and DRAM manufacturers globally, recently had to explain to its investors during its Q2 2026 earnings call why it only generated $55 billion in revenue instead of the anticipated $58 billion. Tough break, right?

Currently, SK Hynix reported a revenue of 79 trillion Korean won (around $55 billion) for Q2 2026, which, according to reports, fell short of investor expectations. Analysts had projected earnings closer to 84 trillion Korean won (just over $58 billion).

Interestingly, SK Hynix pointed fingers at declining PC and smartphone sales for this revenue dip. In their Q2 2026 report, they mentioned that the PC and smartphone markets are undergoing a “temporary adjustment in sales due to challenges in securing memory volumes.” Sounds like trouble from within.

The real impact of this situation is being felt across the three major RAM manufacturers, which also include Samsung and Micron Technology. Following SK Hynix’s earnings call on July 29, the company’s stock value plummeted by an astonishing 17 percent. In a ripple effect, Micron Technology’s stock fell by 11 percent, while Samsung’s dropped by 10 percent.

While I’m no financial expert, it’s hard to ignore the connection here. Fortunately, you don’t have to rely solely on my observations; reports indicate that SK Hynix’s earnings results are a significant factor in the downturn affecting the entire semiconductor and RAM manufacturing sector.

For gamers, that faint glimmer at the end of the tunnel just got a bit brighter. At this pace, we might finally see more affordable gaming rigs, like Steam Machines, by 2030.
