Helldivers 2 Welcomes Warhammer 40K Universe
Helldivers 2 is diving into the dark future with an exciting collaboration: the Warhammer 40,000 Castellan’s Creed Legendary Warbond is set to launch on August 12. The announcement trailer hints at an epic crossover, inviting players to “roll the dice to break the traitorous enemies of Super Earth.”
The trailer reveals gear inspired by the Cadian Kasrkin of the Imperium. Among the new weapons is the Hot-shot Marksman Rifle, designed for medium to long-range combat, complete with a scope. The classic Bolt Pistol serves as a reliable secondary option. Players can also utilize the Meltamine, a new throwable that functions as a booby trap. For strategic firepower, the Meltagun can be called in, unleashing a supercharged beam capable of slicing through tanks.
On the defensive side, the warbond features the TG-8 Sharpshooter medium armor, which boasts the passive ability True Grit, enhancing weapon handling by +20 and increasing reload speed for support weapons by 30%. The TG-122 Demo-Trooper set offers heavy armor with the same passive benefits. Cosmetic additions include fresh patterns for the FRV buggy, exo suit, shuttle, and helipod, along with new player banners, capes, and a player title. Interestingly, this Warhammer 40K crossover refrains from including the iconic Space Marines, likely to maintain the narrative consistency of Super Earth’s beleaguered foot soldiers.
While the developer hasn’t confirmed the price for this new content, the previous Halo ODST Legendary Warbond was priced at 1500 Super Credits. For reference, the in-game currency can be purchased at various rates: $1.99 for 150 Super Credits, $4.99 for 375, $9.99 for 1000, and $19.99 for 2100, reflecting the often convoluted nature of in-game economies.
Since its explosive launch nearly two and a half years ago, Helldivers 2 has maintained a solid player base, peaking at 458,709 concurrent players on Steam. Although it no longer reaches those heights, player numbers still surge with major updates.
However, as a game published by Sony, Helldivers 2 has faced some backlash due to the company’s decision to discontinue support for physical games on its consoles. One comment on the announcement video humorously noted, “The emperor of mankind loves his games with physical discs.” Here’s hoping the community’s response is as resilient as the Imperium itself.
