A D&D veteran is set to enhance Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere RPG with an exciting new concept.

Brotherwise Games has partnered with Brandon Sanderson in 2024 to introduce the Cosmere Roleplaying Game, a tabletop experience that invites players to embark on adventures across the rich tapestry of the fantasy author’s interconnected worlds, including Mistborn and the Stormlight Archive. This venture required the creation of unique rules to facilitate combat, negotiation, and exploration in diverse settings featuring varying levels of technology and magic systems. During the opening ceremony at Gen Con, Brotherwise revealed that this flexibility will also fuel new projects, including one from the renowned Dungeons & Dragons designer Keith Baker.

Brotherwise’s path mirrors that of Monte Cook Games, which launched the science fantasy TTRPG Numenera in 2013 and later expanded its mechanics in the 2015 Cypher System Rulebook. This success paved the way for a variety of other Cypher-based games, such as Old Gods of Appalachia and The Magnus Archives. Brotherwise plans to offer free online rules and templates for creating games with the Plotweaver RPG System, the core mechanics behind the Cosmere Roleplaying Game. An open alpha is set to begin on August 5, featuring an original fantasy setting called Erstwild, with additional settings slated for release this fall and an open beta launching next year.

Twogether Studios, led by Baker and Jenn Ellis, is developing Infinite, a new genre-blending TTRPG utilizing the Plotweaver system. Baker, who crafted D&D’s Eberron setting through a 2002 contest hosted by Wizards of the Coast, will oversee a Plotweaver Setting Search, allowing designers to submit ideas for official Brotherwise releases. This contest is expected to commence in early 2027.

Earthborn Games is also leveraging Plotweaver to create an RPG set in the universe of their solarpunk cooperative card game, Earthborne Rangers. This setting will be available for pre-order as part of the Plotweaver crowdfunding campaign launching in Q2 2027.
