Rumors of Lego Astro Bot and PlayStation Sets Spark Skepticism: “Will It Be a Real Set or Just a Download Code?”
Lego is gearing up to release sets inspired by Astro Bot and PlayStation, as revealed by a reliable source. The PlayStation set is expected to feature 1,911 pieces and will retail for $160. To snag the Astro Bot, you’ll need to purchase the PlayStation set, as it will be available as a gift-with-purchase.
Both sets are slated for release on October 1. The $160 price point places the PlayStation set between the newly announced Sega Genesis set at $40 and the existing Atari set priced at $240. Additionally, a Lego NES was previously launched for $230. Given Lego’s recent trend of collaborating with various franchises, it’s likely we’ll see Lego versions of many iconic gaming consoles in the future, though the Xbox may be an exception due to its existing partnership with Mega Bloks.
However, the timing of this announcement has sparked some humor among Lego enthusiasts, especially since Sony is currently facing criticism from fans over its decision to discontinue new PlayStation game discs by 2028. Comments on social media have pointed out the irony, with one user noting, “They picked quite the time for a PlayStation tie-in.” Others have joked about the nature of ownership, questioning whether the Lego set is a physical product or just a digital code.
On a more serious note, some fans are puzzled as to why Astro Bot is only available as a gift-with-purchase instead of being sold as a standalone set. A few collectors are already expressing concern about potentially having to pay inflated prices on secondary markets like eBay if they opt not to buy the Lego PlayStation set. It would be fantastic if Sony could introduce a free Lego-themed level for Astro Bot to sweeten the deal.
