Spider-Man Shatters Box Office Records with a Record-Breaking Opening Day, Outpacing Avengers: Endgame

Just when it felt like the MCU was on a downturn, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* has burst onto the scene with an astonishing box office performance. The film raked in $72 million from early preview screenings, surpassing the previous domestic record of $60 million set by *Avengers: Endgame* back in April 2019.

Reports indicate that the film is on track to reach $100 million by the end of its first Friday, including previews. This milestone has only been achieved by five films to date: *Avengers: Endgame* ($157.4 million), *Spider-Man: No Way Home* ($121.96 million), *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* ($119.1 million), *Avengers: Infinity War* ($106.3 million), and *Star Wars: The Last Jedi* ($104.6 million).

*Spider-Man: Brand New Day* is poised to surpass the massive opening weekend of *Avengers: Endgame*, which grossed $357 million domestically and $1.2 billion globally. The film is projected to earn at least $850 million internationally within its first five days. So far, it has garnered rave reviews, boasting a 90% critic score and a 98% audience score.

This impressive debut adds to a year filled with box office triumphs. Christopher Nolan’s *The Odyssey* has also had a remarkable run, surpassing $700 million globally after just 12 days. With *Brand New Day*’s opening and the third weekend of *The Odyssey*, this weekend could potentially set a record for the highest combined domestic gross in box office history, previously held at $402 million from the opening weekend of *Avengers: Endgame*.

Other notable box office hits include horror films like *Obsession* and *Backrooms*, which have drawn in Gen Z audiences in large numbers. Meanwhile, *Toy Story 5* has become the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide, alongside other successes like *Project Hail Mary*. This year’s domestic box office is on track to hit $10 billion for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
