Wolverine is Ready to Unleash His Fury in Insomniac’s Upcoming Game
BREAKING NEWS: Get ready to catch a glimpse of Wolverine’s backside in Marvel’s Wolverine, set to launch on PS5 on September 15. As noted in the ESRB content description, which has given the game a Mature 17+ rating, players can expect “a character’s exposed buttocks” among other content.
Insomniac is taking a notably different route with Wolverine compared to their Spider-Man series, as evidenced by the first trailer released in June, which showcased some intense violence. Following that, we got a less gory teaser featuring the adamantium-clawed antihero, though some fans expressed concerns about Logan’s unusual facial design. Now, it seems our focus will shift to what he’s showing off at the other end, with the ESRB confirming that, alongside violence, blood, strong language, and drug references, there will be “a handful of sequences briefly depicting a character’s exposed buttocks.”
It’s safe to assume this character is Wolverine, as it would be quite strange for it to be anyone else. Seeing Jean Grey in such a situation would be an odd choice, and Logan certainly fits the bill for someone who might casually stroll around his place with both sets of hairy cheeks on display. Here’s the complete ESRB description:
Marvel’s Wolverine is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB, featuring Blood and Gore, Drug References, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, and Strong Language. The game also includes In-Game Purchases. Players take on the role of James Logan/Wolverine as he teams up with Team X to confront a significant threat. From a third-person perspective, players engage in melee combat using claws and special abilities to take down enemy soldiers and robots. The action is fast-paced, with rage modes allowing for quicker, more devastating combos and slow-motion finishers (like dramatically stabbing an enemy in the head). Combat is marked by frequent blood splatter, cries of pain, and dismemberment. Battlefields may be littered with body parts, and cutscenes can show graphic violence (such as characters tearing enemies apart). A few sequences will briefly show a character’s exposed buttocks. The dialogue includes drug references (e.g., “It doubled my production of fentanyl.”) and contains strong language like “f**k” and “sh*t.”
This isn’t the first time Wolverine has bared it all. Hugh Jackman’s backside made an appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Deadpool has a running gag about his buddy’s rear. It’s exciting to see Insomniac likely continuing this cheeky tradition. The real question is, how hairy will it be? Will they play it safe with a smooth look, or stay true to the character’s rugged nature and let the fur fly?
