Get ready for some cheeky moments in Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine!

It’s clear that Marvel’s Wolverine takes a different approach compared to Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles. Expect a lot more adult themes, including intense swearing and a significant amount of blood and gore that might even make Mortal Kombat fans flinch. According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), players might see more of Logan Howlett, aka Wolverine, than just his iconic yellow spandex.

The ESRB assigns age and content ratings based on the game’s material and how it’s presented. With a rating of Mature 17+, the board cautions players about the presence of blood and gore, drug references, intense violence, strong language, and partial nudity in Marvel’s Wolverine.

However, if you’re hoping for a full reveal from Wolverine come September, you might be let down: the game will only feature glimpses of “a character’s exposed buttocks.”

Marvel’s Wolverine is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB, featuring Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, and Strong Language. It also includes In-Game Purchases. Players take on the role of James Logan/Wolverine, reuniting with Team X to confront a formidable threat. From a third-person perspective, players engage in melee combat using claws to slash, stab, and slice through enemies, with rage modes enabling faster, more destructive combos and slow-motion finishers (like dramatically stabbing an enemy in the head). Combat is marked by frequent blood splatter, screams of pain, and dismemberment. Battlefields may be littered with body parts, and cutscenes can show graphic violence (such as characters tearing enemies apart). There are also brief moments depicting a character’s exposed buttocks. The dialogue includes drug references (e.g., “It doubled my production of fentanyl.”), and strong language like “f**k” and “sh*t” is present.

While the specific character whose buttocks will be shown hasn’t been revealed, fans of Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine know there have been plenty of butt shots in the past, particularly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Given that Marvel’s Wolverine will explore Wolverine’s origin story, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Logan’s backside make an appearance for nostalgia’s sake. Mystique is also confirmed to be in the game, and while it’s unlikely Insomniac will follow the Fox films’ approach of having her nearly naked all the time, anything is possible.

Regardless of who it is, expect some buttock action in Marvel’s Wolverine when it launches on PlayStation 5 on September 15.
