Warhammer 40K to receive an animated series from the creators of the Secret Level episode.

The Warhammer 40,000 universe is expanding with an exciting new animated series from Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios, and Games Workshop. Henry Cavill is on board as an executive producer and is also leading the charge on Amazon’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the iconic war game, which is being penned by Mike Flanagan.

As reported, this animated series will serve as a spin-off from the anthology series Secret Level, specifically drawing from the Space Marine-centric episode titled “And They Shall Know No Fear.” Blur Studios, known for their stunning animation, is returning to bring this new project to life. Dave Wilson, who directed the original episode, is co-creating and directing the new series alongside screenwriter John Orloff, known for his work on Master of the Air and Band of Brothers.

While specific plot details are still under wraps, the series will center on The Deathwatch, an elite cadre of Space Marines tasked with eliminating alien threats. It’s likely that the narrative will follow the same squad featured in the anthology episode, including the notable Lieutenant Titus.

Tim Miller, the creator of Secret Level, is also serving as an executive producer, alongside Dave Wilson. Other executive producers include Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, Andy Smillie from Games Workshop, Natalie Viscuso, and Cavill. This collaboration is being developed in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and Games Workshop, the guardians of the Warhammer franchise.

“And They Shall Know No Fear” was one of the standout episodes from the mixed anthology series Secret Level, showcasing the well-known Space Marine Lieutenant Titus and his squad as they confront Chaos cultists. This episode is noted for its brutal storytelling, minimal dialogue, and impressive animation, embodying the essence of Warhammer 40,000.

Blur Studios has earned a solid reputation in the gaming community for their high-quality 3D-animated cutscenes and promotional content. They previously handled the cinematics for Halo Wars and created several trailers for Star Wars: The Old Republic, including the acclaimed “Deceived,” which Wilson also directed.

“Secret Level wasn’t just an anthology; it was meant to serve as a launchpad for bigger narratives,” Wilson shared. “The response to the Warhammer episode was phenomenal, especially from fans who appreciated the effort put into accurately depicting the universe. This series allows us to expand on that groundwork and tell a much larger story. I’ve wanted to craft a long-form narrative set in Warhammer 40,000 for over 20 years, and I’m incredibly thankful to Games Workshop and Amazon MGM Studios for this chance.”

Meanwhile, Games Workshop continues to promote the Imperium, consistently releasing new miniatures for the tabletop game. There are also several Warhammer 40,000 video games in development, including Dawn of War 4, Space Marine 3, a new Total War installment, Boltgun 2, and more. Helldivers 2 recently featured a crossover, proving that nearly 40 years later, this dark sci-fi universe still resonates with fans.
