Fast Forever director admits he hasn’t seen the script that brought Vin Diesel to tears.

Three years after Fast X left fans hanging, Fast Forever is still waiting to kick off production. However, director Louis Leterrier assures us that the long-awaited conclusion is very much in the works, even if he can’t fully explain the delays.

In a recent chat during a press tour for his upcoming Netflix film, Leterrier confirmed he’s still on board to direct the Fast & Furious “finale,” despite spending the last three years on other projects instead of jumping straight into the sequel as initially intended.

“There is a parallel universe” where he transitioned directly from Fast X to the next installment, Leterrier noted. “It’s like a mix of Fast not moving forward… we were supposed to dive right into it, then the strike happened, and I found this script [for The Last House].”

His remarks provide one of the clearest insights from someone closely tied to the franchise about the halt in Fast Forever’s development following Fast X’s 2023 release. Earlier this year, Vin Diesel announced a March 2028 release date, but details have been sparse, particularly regarding the director.

When asked if he’s still working on Fast Forever, Leterrier was quick to respond.

“Not right now because I’m finishing another movie, but yeah,” he said. “This franchise will have an ending. They built a ride!” he joked. “They have to finish it. Someone has to wrap it up.”

One comment hinted that there might be more going on behind the scenes than fans realize.

Recently, Diesel shared on Instagram that reading the latest Fast Forever screenplay brought him to tears. “I just read the Fast Forever script by Mike Leslie. It is the best script I have read in decades,” Diesel expressed. “I am still crying…”

However, when asked if he had seen that same script, Leterrier revealed he hasn’t and implied there’s a story he can’t share.

“Well, uh, I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t,” Leterrier said with a chuckle. “There will be an ending, and it’s great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin and I love Universal. They’re fantastic to work with. So yeah. We’ll see, hopefully.”

Will we ever see Fast Forever, a project that seems to be more alive through Diesel’s passionate social media updates than through solid production news? Leterrier’s comments at least confirm: yes, we will. Probably? The finale is still in the works, and he’s still set to be the one behind the camera when it finally comes to life.
