Crimson Moon, the Gothic Action RPG, Sets Its Release Date

Gothic action RPG Crimson Moon is set to release this September on consoles and PC, as announced by developer ProbablyMonsters.

First unveiled during February’s State of Play, Crimson Moon immerses players in a dark fantasy world influenced by gothic horror and classic heavy metal vibes. You’ll step into the shoes of a Nephilim—a hybrid of angel and human—fighting through the decaying city of Gildenarch against waves of demons, undead, vampires, and other nightmarish foes, utilizing fierce melee combat and supernatural powers.

A gameplay trailer showcased during Summer Game Fest provided a deeper look at the game’s mix of solo and cooperative gameplay, where players can slice through skeletons, imps, and massive bosses in a richly atmospheric environment reminiscent of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series and Elden Ring.

However, unlike those expansive RPGs, Crimson Moon aims for a more streamlined action-adventure experience. The studio has expressed a desire to create a polished journey that players can complete in just a few sessions rather than requiring dozens of hours.

Instead of an open world, Crimson Moon features replayable missions set across Gildenarch’s districts. Players will hunt down bounties and treasures, uncover hidden secrets, and take down hordes of undead minions on their way to formidable bosses. Between missions, players will return to Sanctus Clypeus—the operational hub for the knights of the Crimson Moon—where they can purchase new weapons, upgrade gear, stock up on consumables, and interact with a diverse cast of characters, including a seasoned Nephilim mentor, a historian, a treasure hunter, and a legendary vampire blacksmith before heading back into the fray.

ProbablyMonsters also shared details about the heavy metal soundtrack for Crimson Moon. Composed by Chris Wilson and managed by Steve Pardo, the score features original tracks created in collaboration with the metal band Health, YouTube guitarist Jared Dines, Periphery’s Misha Mansoor, and Ice Nine Kills’ Ricky Armellino.

Health has previously contributed music to titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto Online, and Max Payne 3, while Armellino recently worked on the beat-’em-up and rhythm game Dead as Disco.

Crimson Moon launches on September 1 exclusively for PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, priced at $19.99, with a $29.99 Deluxe Edition that includes the Ceremonial Armor Set and Axe of the Gods cosmetic.
