Monster Hunter Wilds Demo Released More Than a Year Post-Launch
Capcom has launched Monster Hunter Wilds, the newest installment in the action RPG series, on February 28, 2025. If you’ve been on the fence about picking it up for the past year and a half, there’s some exciting news: a demo for Monster Hunter Wilds is now available.
The Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo allows players to dive into a substantial portion of the game’s beginning. You can create your own Hunter and Palico, the adorable feline companions that accompany you on your adventures. The demo covers everything from the start of the game through “Chapter 1–3: To the Forest,” which includes the fifth mission. This gives you a few hours to explore the world of Wilds and determine if it’s the right fit for you.
For those who enjoy the demo, any progress made will transfer to the full game upon purchase. However, there are two notable features missing from the demo. First, photo mode is not available, so you won’t be able to capture those perfectly framed shots of your custom Hunter. More importantly, all online features are excluded, meaning you can’t team up with friends for the prologue missions. While this may not significantly impact the early gameplay experience, it does mean you won’t fully experience the franchise’s collaborative gameplay mechanics.
The demo’s release also aligns with a recent update to the Monster Hunter Wilds product lineup. Earlier this week, Capcom streamlined the various versions of Wilds available for purchase. The $79.99 Gold Edition bundles several DLC and cosmetic add-ons, while the base game is now priced at $39.99. Additionally, a paid expansion titled Ascendance is set to launch in 2027.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with a version for the Nintendo Switch 2 currently in development.
