Fenix Flexin Appears to Have Utilized AI Music Tool Treblo
There was a strong suspicion that Fenix Flexin’s track “Rubberz” was created using AI, but musician Medasin asserted it was specifically made with Treblo. Recent developments from the company and a new detection tool seem to back this up.
On Monday, the company unveiled the open-source Treblo AI Music Classifier, designed to identify songs generated with Treblo, though it doesn’t detect other AI tools. According to a blog post, the classifier boasts a false positive rate of less than 1 in 10,000. While that’s not foolproof, it’s significant that the tool indicated “Rubberz” was “very likely Treblo” with “high confidence,” intensifying the scrutiny on Fenix.
Treblo appears to be enjoying the spotlight. CEO Ryan Tremblay stated, “The classifier returns a very high probability score for Rubberz, indicating the released audio was generated almost entirely by our model. That would make it the first known AI-generated song to reach the Billboard Hot 100.” He added, “Someone seems to have used our model to create a sound that resonated with millions, and that’s exciting.”
Fenix has consistently denied that “Rubberz” was AI-generated, sharing clips he claims are from the project files of the recording session. However, these low-quality videos have done little to quell the allegations. Medasin previously suggested in a now-expired Instagram story that Fenix likely used an AI stem separator to fabricate the session.
Fenix has not responded to requests for comment.
Correction August 5th: This story originally stated that the false positive rate for Treblo’s detector was 1 in 1,000; it is 1 in 10,000.
