Warriors Cats is set to explode in popularity with a new video game and an upcoming Disney Plus series.
There’s never been a better time to be a Warrior Cats enthusiast. The beloved series of novels, which kicked off more than twenty years ago, is finally branching out with some exciting adaptations, including a brand-new video game.
Trailmark Games and the Coolabi Group have just dropped a trailer for Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, marking the franchise’s first foray into gaming. The trailer, just shy of a minute long, gives players a solid glimpse of what’s in store. This turn-based RPG allows players to create their own character and choose from four distinct clans, each with its own narrative—similar to the structure of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The storyline will evolve based on player decisions and the relationships they cultivate.
Clans of the Forest promises to include iconic characters from the novels alongside original ones. Players will traverse familiar locations from the series, such as the Moonpool and the Island, which are situated in the lake territories. This suggests the game is set after the events of 2005’s Dawn, although it doesn’t pinpoint an exact timeline, as many subsequent books have also taken place in the same region. The best part? Fans won’t have to wait long, as the game is slated for release this fall.
But that’s not all for Warrior Cats fans. In 2024, the Coolabi Group announced an animated series is in the works in collaboration with Tencent Video. This June, it was revealed that Disney will distribute the show on Disney Plus and Disney Channel, with a release date set for 2028.
The Warrior Cats series was originally crafted by Victoria Holmes and published by HarperCollins. The first arc, consisting of the initial six books, was penned by Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry under the collective name Erin Hunter. Over the years, the writing team has expanded as the series continues to evolve, now boasting over fifty mainline books, with more on the way.
