Fenix Flexin Embraces AI in the Creation of ‘Rubberz’

It took a while, but LA rapper Fenix Flexin seems to have acknowledged the use of AI in his 80s synth pop-inspired track “Rubberz.” This comes after producer Medasin shared videos suggesting that an AI tool called Treblo (previously known as Sonauto) was involved in the song’s creation, along with the release of an AI detector that identifies it as being made with Treblo AI.

In response to a comment referencing Tyga’s admission of using AI for his own controversial ’80s-themed album $tarface, Fenix stated on one of his Instagram posts:
> never said I didn’t use AI , i said it had nun to do w recording process . I didn’t even know what da app was till we mixed it and erbody started commenting . ain’t nothing wrong w using new technology as a tool keep up w the times or get left behind

He emphasizes that he never denied using AI, but just last month on Hot 97’s Mornings With Mero, when directly asked about AI involvement by interviewer Kazeem Famuyide, he clearly stated that there’s “no AI on it.”

Since the song’s release, Fenix has made efforts to counter the AI claims publicly. He and his team have shared what they claimed were clips from the recording session, engaged in the comments to assert that the song was created by two humans in his living room using “pro tools auto tune and some reverb,” and insisted that he is genuinely singing in clips where it appears he is lip syncing.
