Complete Cast List for the Upcoming Legend of Zelda Movie
Nintendo is gearing up for a major milestone it hasn’t tackled in over three decades: a live-action adaptation of its iconic video games. The Legend of Zelda is set to hit theaters in April 2027, promising to bring the beloved fantasy role-playing game franchise to life like never before. (Well, aside from that quirky Japanese commercial for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past featuring a rapping Link.)
Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, anticipation for The Legend of Zelda is soaring. To helm this project, Nintendo has enlisted Wes Ball, known for his work on The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Ball has expressed his desire to create a version of The Legend of Zelda that feels more “grounded” and “real,” steering away from an over-reliance on motion-capture technology.
To achieve this realism, Ball is casting live actors dressed in Hylian attire, complete with prosthetic elf ears. While Nintendo has confirmed Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, additional casting details are starting to trickle in from unofficial sources.
Here’s what we know about the cast of the 2027 film so far.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth was revealed as Link in 2025 by Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The 17-year-old British actor gained recognition for his role in Mike Flanagan’s Netflix horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor and voiced Pinocchio in Robert Zemeckis’ live-action adaptation. Ainsworth also appeared in season 3 of HBO’s House of the Dragon as Daeron Targaryen, where he donned a green tunic and wielded a sword.
Bo Bragason was announced as Princess Zelda alongside Ainsworth. The 22-year-old British actor previously starred in the Disney Plus series Renegade Nell as the titular character’s sister. Recently, Bragason appeared in Prime Video’s Sterling Point and BBC One’s King & Conqueror.
Uli Latukefu is reportedly set to portray Ganondorf, the villain of The Legend of Zelda, representing the Gerudo form of the more monstrous Ganon. Latukefu is an Australian actor best known for his role as Dwayne Johnson in the NBC comedy Young Rock and as Byamba in the Netflix series Marco Polo.
Dichen Lachman’s role as Impa, Princess Zelda’s bodyguard, has been all but confirmed through set photos, with a report from Deadline solidifying her casting. Lachman is recognized for her performances in Apple TV’s Severance, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
The late Sam Neill will make an appearance in The Legend of Zelda, marking one of his final roles. He is reportedly playing Zelda’s father, the King of Hyrule. Neill is well-known for his work in the Jurassic Park franchise, The Hunt for Red October, and Event Horizon.
Yvonne Strahovski, famous for her roles in The Handmaid’s Tale, Mass Effect 2, and Chuck, is said to be portraying Zelda’s mother, the Queen of Hyrule.
Deadline has also reported that Lydia Peckham will reunite with Ball in The Legend of Zelda as an undisclosed character. Peckham has previously appeared in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Netflix’s The Kennedys, and MGM Plus’ Robin Hood.
The Zelda movie was officially announced in 2023, with Nintendo collaborating with Sony Pictures Entertainment on the project. Co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Hollywood veteran Avi Arad are producing. Miyamoto mentioned in 2023 that he had been working on the film for “many years now.”
The Legend of Zelda is set to premiere in theaters on April 30, 2027.
