Matt Damon’s 113-minute action thriller declared Netflix’s top film of 2026.

Matt Damon is having an impressive year. The seasoned actor recently stepped into the legendary shoes of Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, and he’s gearing up to team up again with his longtime collaborator Ben Affleck for the upcoming Netflix crime thriller, Animals, which Affleck is directing.

While these projects have certainly made waves, one of Damon’s standout achievements of 2026 has emerged from a less publicized thriller. A recent Netflix film has officially claimed the title of the most-watched movie of the year so far, according to Nielsen, drawing a larger audience at home than many of this year’s big-screen hits.

Damon and Affleck’s latest venture, The Rip, has surged to the top of Nielsen’s rankings for the most-streamed movies released in 2026. The crime thriller racked up an astonishing 4.432 billion minutes of viewing time, easily surpassing the second-place Netflix original, War Machine, which garnered 3.531 billion minutes.

Other notable films like Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller Sinners, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Sony’s Anaconda reboot made it onto Nielsen’s list of the year’s biggest streaming movies through June, but none could rival The Rip. While it may not have sparked as much online chatter as some of the year’s major blockbusters, Nielsen’s data indicates that viewers were eager to see the iconic duo of Damon and Affleck back in action.

Directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip centers on a group of Miami police officers whose lives unravel after they stumble upon millions of dollars hidden in a stash house. What starts as a routine operation quickly spirals into a web of paranoia and betrayal as the officers begin to suspect that one of their own cannot be trusted. The film features a strong supporting cast, including Steven Yeun, Kyle Chandler, Teyana Taylor, and Nestor Carbonell.

The Rip marks yet another chapter in one of Hollywood’s most enduring creative partnerships. After winning an Academy Award for writing Good Will Hunting in 1998, Damon and Affleck have collaborated on several films, including Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Last Duel, Air, and now The Rip.

Fans won’t have to wait long for their next collaboration. Damon is set to star in Animals, the upcoming Netflix crime thriller directed by Affleck, who also co-stars alongside Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Ray Fisher, and Adriana Paz. While plot details remain largely under wraps, if The Rip’s massive streaming success is any indication, Netflix may have another hit on its hands with this Damon-Affleck pairing.
