Magik Shines in Marvel’s Latest X-Men Series
Illyana Rasputin, better known as Magik, is finally getting the spotlight she deserves after decades of being a fan-favorite character. Her popularity has surged recently, thanks to her appearances in exciting video games, significant comic storylines, and a movie that’s best left unmentioned. Fans of Magik have plenty to celebrate as she’s set to lead a brand-new team.
Marvel Comics has announced that Magik will take charge in the upcoming five-issue limited series titled X-Orcists. The series will be penned by Ashley Allen, with artwork by Germán Peralta. This marks the third collaboration between this creative duo focused on Illyana, following 2025’s Magik and this year’s Magik & Colossus. Allen expressed her excitement about continuing this journey, stating, “Round three, baby! In all seriousness, I’m incredibly grateful to continue this journey with Germán and the rest of the Magik team, telling the story of a character so close to my and fans’ hearts.” The first issue is set to drop on November 18.
The official synopsis for X-Orcists hints at the return of a significant X-Men villain, prompting Magik to gather some unexpected allies. When a demon escapes from Limbo and starts wreaking havoc on both humans and mutants, Magik teams up with Juggernaut and Madelyne Pryor, the Queen of Limbo, to confront this threat. However, this demon is unlike any they’ve faced before, and they’ll need all the help they can get to stop its destructive rampage.
Magik, Madelyne, and Juggernaut share a rich history intertwined with the Limbo dimension. As a child, Magik was kidnapped by a demon and spent nearly a decade in Limbo, where she honed her mutant powers and created her legendary Soulsword, eventually becoming the Queen of Limbo. Madelyne, a clone of Jean Grey, was once corrupted by Limbo’s demons and became the Goblin Queen, but more recently, Magik passed her title to Madelyne. Juggernaut has his own history with Limbo, having been banished there before making his escape.
While Magik, Madelyne, and Juggernaut are the main focus of X-Orcists, there are hints that other mystical heroes will make appearances throughout the series. Notably, a new character named Repent is set to debut in Uncanny X-Men, and official art refers to him as the X-Orcist. After assisting Gambit with his inner demons, he might just join forces with Magik and her crew to tackle the villain that has escaped from Limbo. In the meantime, Magik enthusiasts can enjoy playing as her in Marvel Rivals or Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, or dive into the archives and finally experience Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
