A Sequel to Golden Sun, the Ultimate Game Boy Advance RPG, Is on the Way!

It’s hard to believe it’s been less than a year since Camelot’s fantastic RPG, Golden Sun, made its debut on the Game Boy Advance, and now we’re already hearing about a direct sequel. The best part? It looks absolutely stunning.

For those who completed Golden Sun, you know that the journey is only halfway done. You play as Isaac, a young hero wielding earth-themed magic known as Psynergy, on a mission to thwart a group of villains intent on unleashing chaos by lighting four elemental lighthouses in the world of Weyard. However, the original game only takes you to two of those lighthouses: Mercury (water) and Venus (earth). It concludes on a massive cliffhanger that leaves the fates of several key characters hanging in the balance, as Isaac and his companions set sail in search of their next goal.

Fortunately, the wait for the epic continuation won’t be long. Earlier this year, a number of screenshots from the sequel surfaced, revealing a new group of heroes. Among them is Felix, who was part of the antagonist team in Golden Sun, now taking center stage. He’s joined by his sister Jenna, who wields fire magic, and seemingly Sheba, a character kidnapped by the villains at the end of the first game, now using wind magic.

Recently, a new trailer from E3 2002 showcased some actual gameplay. In this footage, we see Felix and his allies navigating what appears to be a wind-themed dungeon, utilizing several new Psynergies and in-battle summons that fans haven’t seen before. The soundtrack continues to impress as well.

We’ve also been treated to several new screenshots, including one of Felix attempting to cross a rope bridge, another featuring a cool dragon summon in battle, and one that hints at sailing the ocean on a winged ship.

One lingering question remains: who will be the water-themed magic user to complete the party? Many speculate it could be Alex, the villain still traveling with them, but that detail hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Golden Sun: The Lost Age is currently slated for release early next year. This gives us at least six months to ponder where this adventure will lead, what Felix and his crew are planning, and who the mysterious fourth member of the party will be. Personally, I can’t wait for this Golden Sun sequel.
