After Two Decades, Player Discovers Hidden Secret in Iconic Star Wars Game
In 2005, Pandemic Studios and EA launched Star Wars: Battlefront 2, a third-person shooter that captured the essence of the beloved sci-fi universe. Many fans regard it as one of the finest entries in the Star Wars gaming lineup. Fast forward 20 years, and a delightful secret has emerged involving Wampas and Ewoks.
On August 9, modder Iamashaymin, who leads the fan project Battlefront III Legacy, shared a brief video on YouTube revealing a newly uncovered easter egg in the 2005 Battlefront 2. This hidden gem was found while decompiling the PC version of the game. Players can unlock a new playable unit on the Imperial side by creating a new in-game profile named “Wampa” and then loading the “Hunt” game mode on the Endor map. Previously, this mode featured only the small Ewok warriors and Imperial Stormtrooper snipers. With the Wampa profile, players can now unleash chaos as the formidable Yeti-like creature from The Empire Strikes Back.
The discovery was made by modder S1thK3nny, who is developing an upcoming mod for Star Wars Battlefront 2 that aims to lift many of the game’s old restrictions while introducing new animations and features. While digging through Battlefront 2’s code, they stumbled upon this hidden secret. According to Iamashaymin, the reason this easter egg remained undiscovered for so long is that it resides deeper in the game’s code, away from the typical areas modders usually explore.
It’s important to note that this Wampa secret is exclusive to the PC version of Battlefront 2; console versions do not include it. Additionally, it cannot be activated during online play. However, players can utilize the Wampa secret in split-screen mode on PC through the Classic Collection version of the game set to release in 2024.
