The top game of 2023 is finally achieving the sales it deserves.

Remedy Entertainment’s unique masterpiece, Alan Wake 2, garnered significant critical praise upon its 2023 release, celebrated for its inventive storytelling and captivating atmosphere. However, it didn’t quite dominate the sales landscape, moving only 1 million copies against a hefty budget and marketing expenditure of €70 million (approximately $76 million USD in 2023). Fortunately, a wave of positive word-of-mouth has since shifted the narrative.

In its financial report covering January to June 2026, Remedy revealed that Alan Wake 2 has now surpassed 3 million sales. The previous update in February 2025 noted it had crossed the 2 million mark, at which point the game finally began to turn a profit. The gradual sales growth can be attributed in part to its status as an Epic Games Store exclusive on Windows PC, with Epic having published and funded the title.

In addition to Alan Wake 2, the original Control continues to perform well, having reached 5 million sales as of last year. Remedy highlighted the upcoming launch of Control Resonant on September 24, 2026, as crucial for the company, noting that the game has amassed over 1.5 million wishlists across all platforms.

Recently, Remedy faced challenges following the lackluster launch of its live-service tie-in with Control, FBC: Firebreak. The company issued a “profit warning” after the game fell short of internal sales expectations. Over the past six months, Remedy has experienced a 23.1% drop in revenue. On March 1, 2026, Jean-Charles Gaudechon took over as CEO, raising concerns about potential restrictions on the studio’s creative freedom due to his background with EA and a sports betting company. His remarks suggesting that Alan Wake and Control “should have sold more” did little to alleviate these worries.

Despite these challenges, Remedy appears to be in a stable position, having avoided major layoffs since 2020. The company’s future likely hinges on the success of Control Resonant, which has already made a strong impression on early players, generating excitement for what lies ahead from one of the industry’s most innovative studios.

‘We Sing’ marks yet another virtuoso set-piece from Remedy.
